Are you ready for a week without violence?
Check out this year's national Web site for great ideas

Last year, more than 75,000 Canadians participated in over 150 activities during the Week Without Violence, organized by local YWCAs and YMCA-YWCAs.

The Week Without Violence encourages people and communities to identify realistic and sustainable alternatives to violence. The support and involvement of schools, politicians, law enforcement agencies, faith groups and national and local community organizations helps create safer places to live, work and play.

This year, the 7th annual Week Without Violence is slated for October 20th-26th.

All the information on how to get involved is on the national Week Without Violence Web site.

An Organizer's Kit, which can be downloaded from the site, is full of helpful programming and planning suggestions for each day of the week. Local organizers are encouraged to post their events on the calendar and check out what other communities are doing during the week. New this year on the site is "Picture This," an interactive area where you can share compelling and thought provoking images and comments that depict how violence has affected your life.

The main point of the site is to get everyone involved. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the Week Without Violence. This can take the form of a personal pledge, a family activity or a community or school event. As the welcome page on the site states, "We can begin by imagining a life without violence- we can work to make it reality."
