Banning guns not the
answer, says reader

November 15, 2002
(Re: Rural sentiment differs from urban
fears on guns
)

Howlett's comment "Tight gun control [in Japan] has worked" is unjustified.

Japan is a totally different culture, period.

You can leave $10,000 sitting on top of your briefcase in an airport and it'll still be there
when you get back. They have a general respect for other people and their property that we have no concept of here in North America.

Treating the symptoms of our sick culture by banning guns is not the answer. Let's review our justice system, and even our sources of
"entertainment" (movies, video games, etc.)

Maybe we'll make some headway when criminals are finally made to be responsible for their actions and our children aren't filling their minds with trigger-happy fantasies.

Regards,
Markus Plaum
