'In
from the cold' concert supports youth emergency shelter A roof over one's head and a sense of hope in one's heart do not come naturally to every youth in Peterborough. In recognition of this fact, an upcoming Christmas concert will be held at the Market Hall to benefit homeless youth in the city who have nowhere to turn. Proceeds from 'In From The Cold,' to be held Dec. 11, 8 p.m., go to Peterborough's Youth Emergency Shelter. Jeannine Taylor, owner of Quid Novis in Peterborough, is one of the sponsors of the event, along with Teachers For Kids. She says she's especially working on bringing other businesses into the sponsor category this year. "All of the ticket proceeds go directly to the shelter," says Jeannine in an email interview. "Assisting youth who need this emergency service during a difficult time in their young lives is essential in creating a peaceful community." Jeannine says the concert will blend traditional music with a line-up of Celtic numbers, wild pop music classics and folk from various traditions. She says having kids "on the street, struggling, is not in any way conducive to building a peaceful and productive community." The Internet company business owner says it is important people are not forced to live on the street, foraging for survival. "Hopefully this type of event will be a step in educating about the needs" that are out there. The concert is now in its fourth year and is an established event for the shelter. "It's a great concert, a great event, a great group of dedicated volunteers and the profile" is building. Jeannine says with awareness of the shelter also increasing, the funds are following suit. Last year's total raised $3,500. Tickets are only $10 and selling fast, she says. You can purchase tickets by calling Su Ditta at 749-9101 or by picking them up at Titles Bookstore. If businesses are able to make a larger donation, Jeannine says there is room on the roster for them to be mentioned in the program. Jeannine will personally pick up a donation. Call 742-6404. |
