Newsroom gearing up for Peace Builder Campaign

PETERBOROUGH ON—Enthusiasm is brewing in the peacefulcommunities.ca newsroom for the upcoming Peace Builder Campaign.

Over the next few months, the peacefulcommunities.ca news team will do its part by sharing stories of individual and corporate philanthropy in the Peterborough area. Writers will publish the tales about people committing their energies and efforts to make Peterborough a better place to live.

Peacefulcommunities.ca Executive Editor Peter Pula and other members of the Peace Builder Campaign committee are launching an initiative that will encourage community members to make pledges of non-violence and community action.

The news team will report on the individuals who are making a difference in their homes, in their neighbourhoods and in their communities at large.

The writers will profile the organizations dedicated to making their corporate environments violence-free and keep track of their pledges.

The news team is discussing some ambitious targets for the number of Peace Builder promises it would like to secure.

Peterborough residents will be asked to make a pledge and encourage others to do the same. Being a peace builder could be as simple as cutting the lawn for an elderly neighbour or committing a few volunteer hours to a community event. Those individual acts of philanthropy combined build social capital in society, says Peter.

“What we’re hoping to do is to get people to think about their work and social activities in the context of building social capital and a peaceful community.”

The goals of the campaign include acquiring an inventory of the peace-building efforts in Peterborough, getting people engaged in activity through their workplaces and promoting community building overall.
