Five arrests made in break-and-enters
Peterborough Lakefield Community Police say they have collapsed an organized break-and-enter ring, which has been “active” in the city since January.

Police arrested five people Wednesday after break-ins into at least 30 storage trailers in Peterborough. More than $27,000 worth of goods, mainly furniture, was stolen, police say in a news release.

“It was an organized gang of individuals who were targeting specific areas and stealing specific items and they were being sold,” says media liaison officer Sergeant Rob Hotston

Sgt. Hotston says a combination of police service investigation and help from the public led to the arrests.

Police say thieves targeted storage trailers at furniture stores, prying off or cutting locks to get inside. Some of the stolen items have since been recovered at a number of locations, police say.

Police continue to investigate and say they expect to make additional arrests and recover more stolen items.
