The Grassroots
Review
takes root
We are pleased to announce the birth
of The Grassroots Review.
This community storytelling site is geared toward fostering
social change and sustainable lifestyles and has been born out
of collaboration and a genuine desire for broad-based community
prosperity.
The Grassroots Review will ‘replace’
peacefulcommunities.ca, although the violence prevention focus
will still be contained within this new site, as is evident using
the left-hand navigation bar. In addition to Peaceful Communities,
Grassroots is also interested in Sustainable Lifestyles and Healthy
Ecology.
This innovative project is made possible only
through the funding and support of some key community partners,
a partnership that we fully expect will continue to grow as more
stakeholders come on board.
Partners have a strong interest in one or more
of the sections under the Grassroots umbrella - Peaceful Communities,
Sustainable Lifestyles or Healthy Ecology. They will help shape
the editorial direction of The Grassroots Review by participating
in regular meetings to help set content, goals and community campaigns
that serve to effect social change.
As well, partners will frequently serve as interviewees,
sharing their expertise with Axiom News journalists who will turn
to them, and other experts, for their knowledge and perspective
in key areas.
The news-gathering method for The Grassroots
Review is somewhat different than your average mainstream news
model. Axiom News journalists employ a strengths-based or asset-based
approach to their stories. This means that rather than spend their
time investigating something that is not working, they ask strategic
questions that allow interviewees to focus on what is working.
The end result is stories that have ideas or solutions, not just
information.
The common bond among partners is a genuine
desire for healthy, prosperous communities, a willingness to take
a pro-active approach to solutions and an eagerness to share ideas
in a spirit of openness.
Look for opportunities to get involved. Share
your thoughts on community issues important to you. For now, our
posting schedule is every Monday, Wednesday and Friday. When more
partners come on board, creating more demand for community solutions
and dialogue, we will be forced to go daily.
Quite frankly, we can’t wait.
