About the Steering Group
The Peaceful Communities Project was initiated as a follow-up to the 'Counting the Costs of Violence' forum sponsored by health agencies in October 1997 during the YWCA Week Without Violence. The Project's motivation is to work toward a broader understanding of what violence is by effecting a change in attitudes. This can then lead to positive behaviour changes and less tolerance of violence in our lives and community.

The Peaceful Communities Steering Group is made up of representatives from:

• Abuse Prevention of Older Adults Network

• Community Counseling and Resource Centre

• Fleming Centre for Law and Justice

• Kawartha Pine Ridge District School Board

• New Canadians Centre

• Peterborough County-City Health Unit

• Peterborough Lakefield Community Police Service

• Peterborough County OPP

• Peterborough Regional Health Centre

• Peterborough Social Planning Council

• Peterborough, Victoria, Northumberland and Clarington Catholic District School Board

• Recreation Division, City of Peterborough

• YWCA of Peterborough, Victoria and Haliburton

The Steering Group gratefully acknowledges
the financial support of the National Crime Prevention Centre.
