Becoming a Peterborough Peace Builder
The Peterborough Peace Builder Campaign calls on residents to make a promise of action to reduce violence and build a better community and encourage others to do the same. The commitment doesn’t have to be big -- it could be as simple as taking your neighbour’s dog for a walk when they are away or raking leaves for an elderly neighbour.

The stories on this page are about people who are making a difference in their homes, in their neighbourhoods and in their communities at large.

Promises of Peace
Melanie Seeney promises to speak out about her beliefs, as well as help, share with and give of herself to the people around her. As a Christian, she believes in God, but she notes she also believes in religious tolerance and acceptance. “I’m also for same-sex marriage. Those are the kinds of things I will speak out about.”

Shawn Cogan promises to do his best to help people in need whom he encounters. He also pledges to continue to treat others with respect and dignity. “It’s something everyone can do; it’s something I can do that can make a difference. Even just having someone say hello can turn a dreary day into a sunny one; it makes you smile; it adds some ‘umph’ to your day. It makes you want to do good to someone else."
