USE THE NEWS
What is Peaceful Communities?
www.peacefulcommunites.ca brings stories and news about violence prevention together in an online news program. The news offers a current resource for anyone interested in violence prevention at work, play, school or in your personal life. The letters and opinions section offers a forum to explore the issues around violence prevention. Peaceful Communities is a space to share successes, learn from each other and offer support.

Why this site centres around stories
"The attractions of narrative are obvious.
• Storytelling is natural and easy and entertaining and energizing.
• Stories help us understand complexity.
• Stories can enhance or change perceptions.
• Stories are easy to remember.
• Stories are inherently non-adversarial and non-hierarchical."

(From The Springboard: How Storytelling Ignites Action in Knowledge-Era Organizations, by Stephen Denning)

Where the stories come from
The stories come from you. But, you don't have to write them. If there is something you'd like to see in the news, simply contact Peaceful Communities at peaceful@newsroom5.com or call 800-294-0051. A writer will then contact you for more information on the topic. Stories can come from events, new projects, new resources made available, research, hot issues. But they can also come from an idea that may have just popped into your head, something you're thinking about, something you read or heard, something you want to share. If you're not sure, try us out.

The importance of feedback
We'll never know how we're doing unless we hear from you. On every page of the site, there is an opportunity to contact Peaceful Communities. That e-mail or phone line will reach a real person who wants to hear what you think about the site. So if you've just read something on the site and you have some comments on the matter, drop us a line.

Where we're located
Peaceful Communities is not a virtual community. The project sprang from a partnership of four organizations located in Peterborough and surrounding area in Ontario, Canada. Click here to find out more about the partner organizations that publish this site. That being said, violence prevention is not limited by geography. So join in, no matter where you live.
